Lake Cressbrook
It has covered and grassy picnic areas, gas barbecues, children's playground, basketball and beach volleyball courts. Fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing are popular activities. There are two boat ramps.(Petrol outboards allowed.)
A 5 km walking circuit starts at the camping ground, loops around the lake shore, and then back over the lightly wooded ridge. You may see the resident red deer.
With level tent sites, showers and toilets (with disabled access), hot and cold water and shared barbecues and fireplaces it's a great place to stay
.A self-registration system operates at the camping ground. Just register yourself upon arrival at the camping ground as no bookings are taken at any time. Camping fees are placed in the envelopes provided. Camping fees (Aug 2010) are $7.90 per night per person or $31.60 for a family of 2 adults and any number of children . Fees are $7.10 per night per person for groups of 20 or more. A limit of 21 consecutive nights camping applies. Please note that firewood is not available on site, either for sale or by collection. All firewood for use at your campsite is strictly BYO (bring your own).
Getting there.
Only a leisurely 50 kilometre drive from Toowoomba, even less from Crows Nest. It's easily accessible from the New England Highway at Pechey or Crows Nest or from the Esk-Hampton Road near Ravensbourne.
Whether you're taking a break for a day or staying a few nights why not give your pets a break too. As Lake Cressbrook is a flora and fauna reserve domestic animals are not allowed.
An entry fee of $2.50 (Dec 2011) per car is payable at the boom gate near the picnic area. The vending machine accepts any denomination or combination of legal coins (except 5 cent pieces) but does not give any change.
Fishermen must have a Freshwater Fishing Permit (Stocked Impoundment Permit). These are available from a number of local business outlets; by ringing the Qld Government Contact Centre on 13 13 04: or on line at Qld Government Smart Service site.
The day use area is open from 6am to 8pm during the summer months (September to April) and from 7am to 6pm during the winter months (May to August). Water-based activities are not permitted outside these hours (campers included).
