The
Darling Downs is one of Australia's richest agricultural areas.
It was also one the first areas in Queensland that was intensively settled
by Europeans. As a result, the Downs has many genuinely historical buildings
and landmarks. It's also a very popular place for "drive tourists" - particularly
on weekends.
By comparison, the South Burnett was first settled by Europeans from
the middle of the 1860s, but was only intensively settled from the early
1900s following the arrival of the railways. The South Burnett is arguably
Queensland's second-richest agricultural area but because of its different
climate, it produces many crops that are unique (eg: peanuts).
Rosalie Shire Council has produced a Shire Tourist Map which outlines
the major drives in our Shire along with key tourist attractions and tourist
facilities (such as accommodation, eating venues, wineries etc).
You can obtain this map in easy-to-print Adobe PDF format
by clicking here (250K).
Hard copies of the map can also be obtained from Rosalie Shire Council's
offices at 89 Mocatta Street, Goombungee; from the Yarraman Heritage Centre
at 20 Miller Street in Yarraman; and from many tourism operators in Rosalie
Shire.
